Welcome

Welcome to Little Acorns @ Axminster Primary Academy!

We are a school led pre-school providing high quality learning experiences for children from the age of two in a safe, supportive and stimulating environment. We believe that early years are crucially important and our highly qualified and experienced staff will work with you to enable your children to flourish. There is a strong emphasis on learning through play, both child initiated and adult led. We believe that children learn best from practical experiences and we ensure the curriulcum is delivered in this way, as well as being linked to the needs and interests of the children.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework, which sets the statutory standards for the development, learning and care of children from birth to five years. You can find further information on the Foundation Years website. We use Development Matters to help plan, assess and observe children in order to support their development.

What sets us apart from the crowd?

We are a pre-school at the heart of Axminster, set in Axminster Community Primary Academy and supported by the Acorn MAT, a group of 7 Primary Academies and 5 Pre-Schools.

Our Pre-School is led by a Nursery Lead, supported by a team of highly experienced and trained practitioners. We work very closely with our Reception Class teacher, forming a successful Foundation Stage teaching team. We are also supported by the Head of School and the Acorn MAT Early Years Lead / RWI Trust Lead. This is unique to the local area and a strength of our provision.

Our aim is to give your child the best possible start and a seamless transition to primary education.

Our pre-school welcomes all children and caters for 2- 5 year olds. We have nappy changing facilities, but ask that parents supply nappies, wipes and nappy sacks.

We are open from 9am to 3.30pm each day in term time. You can select from a morning session, afternoon session or full day. Lunchtime can be added on to a morning session or afternoon session. This is all subject to availability.

At lunchtime, parents can provide a packed lunch or order a tasty school dinner, which is made in our on site canteen. We encourage all children to have a healthy and nutritious meal at lunchtime and a free morning and afternoon snack is provided alongside a choice of milk or water. For up-to-date menu and pricing, please speak to the Administration Team in the main school office. Some children may be entitled to a free school meal if they are attending a full day session.

To check eligibility, apply through the Devon Citizens Portal. This is the quickest and easiest way to apply and will result in you getting an instant decision. Alternatively, call the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019.
