Axminster Primary Academy is a school where the community is at the heart of what we do, working to enable children to grow creatively and to achieve their best in a happy and secure environment.
A huge thank you to Mrs Beviss and the PTFA for providing the SATs breakfasts in the mornings. As you can tell, the Year 6 children clearly enjoyed the wonderful range of food on offer. What a great way to start each day of tests - relaxed and a full tummy!

A huge well done to the whole of Year 6 who finished their SATs today. Their calm and focus is to be commended and they took on the challenge of these tests with confidence and determination. Their exhaustion is clear to see!
We are super proud of you, Year 6!

What a week we’ve had in reception so far! The children have been absolutely wonderful. We’ve been reading ‘the Gingerbread Man’ and the children have been using puppets to retell the story, they’re been creating characters by modelling with the ginger dough, pretending to make their own gingerbread using the sensory tray with ginger, flour and salt. The children’s independence in writing has developed significantly so we’ve seen some wonderful speech bubbles being written for the characters this week! We’ve also been learning about the work of Andy Goldsworthy and been having a go at creating some of our own artwork inspired by his work! It’s been a real joy this week watching the children enjoy their play and continuing to develop their friendships! We’ve been going home rather messy from all the ‘baking’ and mud kitchen play this week 🧑🏼🍳 #EYFS #continuousprovision #traditionaltales

📚🎬 Year 3/4 have jumped into their new Computing unit with brilliant energy! This week, they began creating their very own book trailers to inspire others to read a book their group has absolutely loved.
Using teamwork, creativity and camera skills, the children started capturing eye-catching photos and videos to bring their scripts to life – all while keeping the big twists a secret! 🤫✨
We can't wait to see the final trailers! 🎞️📖 #Computing #BookTrailers #Teamwork #CreativeLearning

In Art this week we have been looking at the patterns in Axminster carpets. We then took a sketch of a pattern and used coloured pencils to shade it in carefully. Some of us, then extended our pattern. We thought carefully about the shapes and the spacing.

Years 1 and 2 had a visit today from Plymouth University's Dental Outreach Programme to remind them how to keep their teeth healthy. They were really inspired by what they learnt and made some posters to help us all remember what to do. They were given a tooth hygiene kit and a book to share with everyone at home, so perhaps they could teach you too!

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it, or it's been deleted.

A busy afternoon for the pupils in Year 5! They were investigating what an insulator is and what is the best material to help insulate ice cubes. As you can see by their faces, this was pretty serious stuff! Look carefully at how they have used a range of materials to insulate with. Wonder which was the best material to keep the ice cubes insulated?

The Year 6 were invited to attend and take part in the VE 80th ceremony held at the Minster. It was a poignant time listening to members of the society making speeches about the many men and women who gave their lives during the World War II. The children showed respect throughout the service, both outside and inside the Minster and were rewarded with a tasty biscuit and cup of orange.
On the walk home, we were escorted by a drill sergeant who gave us a quick lesson on marching - we have a few soldiers in the making!

The Year 6 children are welcome to join us for breakfast at school or have breakfast at home and then join us for a chat before the SATs.
Registration is at the normal time.

🧪🌱 Science in Action! 🌱🦷
Our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils have been getting hands-on with science this week!
Year 4 have been exploring the human digestive system, learning all about its different parts and how they work together. They also studied the various types of teeth in the mouth and did a fantastic job labelling their functions – incisors, canines, premolars, and molars!
Meanwhile, Year 3 have been discovering the clever ways that seeds disperse in nature. To bring their learning to life, they designed and made their very own paper helicopter seeds and observed how the wind affected their movement – a fun and educational way to see dispersal in action!
We’re so proud of their curiosity and creativity. Well done, everyone! 👏✨

This week in reception we are reading, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. The children have been enjoying showing off their developing fine motor skills by using the dough and loose parts to create flowers for Grandma! We’ve been enjoying our PE lessons this week where we’ve been working on our ball skills and practicing our throwing and catching skills using a range of sized balls. The children have come on so much in their gross motor skills over the year! The children have been retelling the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ using our story tuff trays! #EYFS #learningthroughplay #earlylearninggoals #traditionaltales

Year 1/2 have had a fun week this week. We have been learning about the history of Axminster carpets and have been looking deeper into the colours used in a variety of carpets from the 19th century. In Art we created colour charts that coincide with the colours you can see in a selection of carpets. We then had a go at mixing colours to create a closer representation of the colours used within the carpets.
Also, in Year 1 Science, we have been exploring plants and their features. We went on a plant hunt to find roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. It was so fun!
